The Michlits family is one of the most creative and influential organic wine growing families in Austria. Their products and their production methods are revolutionary for the region. Not only have they been able to understand and implement the use of non-trimmed vines in the region, but the use of biodynamic methods and the translation of these into new production standards are awe inspiring. The family owned cattle herd of over 50 Angus beef combined with organic/biodynamic wheat production are the most important tools to improve the soils and the vines that grow on them. Over the last few years the soils have been able to regain their original vigor and diversity.
As a successful red-wine pioneer in the thermal region, Christian Fischer has always remained faithful to his style. For many years he has been a guarantor for powerful, firm wines. The thermal vintner loves purity and earthiness. And together with the multiply distinguished red wines, it is also true for the white wines from the Weingut Fischer (Fischer Wine Estate). In his wines, Christian Fischer differentiates between the “CLASSIC” line for classically matured wines and the “PREMIUM” line for wines matured in barrels.
This is a young family-run winery located in the north-east of Austria, in Ketzelsdorf-Poysdorf. The owners Sylvia and Martin Hugl aim to produce fruity, full-bodied wines that are typical of the region and the soils. They make use of the experience of their parents and combine it with their know-how and modern techniques to create high-quality wines. To keep quality high they limit quantity by cutting back, thinning, and green harvesting. A careful handling of the grapes during harvesting is as necessary, along with a cool fermentation in the cellar.
